As a doctor, I meet patients with sensitive skin pretty much every single day. Do you want to know why? Because we all have sensitive skin! I have it, you have it and even my mother has it. Especially during these sunny summer days. Now where do we go from there?
Something I always like to point out is that our skin is like a living organ. And it is also the biggest organ in our bodies. So please don’t worry: it’s absolutely fine for that organ to have various reactions.Just to be clear: today I am not talking about diseases or any kinds of skin conditions, like eczema, psoriasis or rosacea. We’re discussing medical-grade skin care.
Active ingredients like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C and retinol will help to sooth and enrich your sensitive skin. But when you are starting to apply these ingredients, it is very important to start slow and go low. Let it be your mantra: start slow, go low. Do not overwhelm your skin with all of these new ingredients straight away. Take it easy and let it adjust.
I suggest a very simple 123 system. Use each ingredient once a week for 1 week, then twice a week for 2 weeks and finally three times a week for 3 weeks. After that you can use it daily. With that system even the crankiest skin will be able to take the active ingredient without any rash, itchiness or other manifestations of anger. In other words, no rush = no rash. Sounds good, right?
Keep in mind that active ingredients will take from 8 to 12 weeks of consistent use to show good results. This is why it’s absolutely okay to slowly introduce medical-grade ingredients to your skin care. That way you are preparing your skin for long-term results. And that’s what we’re here for.
And last but not least: always use SPF for any type of skin. Have safe fun in the sun!
